Understanding Progressive Addition Lenses

  1. What are Progressive Addition Lenses?

    • Progressive lenses are multifocal eyeglasses that offer a gradient of vision correction, allowing the wearer to see clearly at all distances without the need for separate glasses. They combine prescriptions for near, intermediate, and far vision in one lens.

    • Progressive addition lenses (PALs) provide a smooth transition from distance correction to near correction, eliminating the traditional lines seen in bifocals or trifocals.

  2. Benefits of Progressive Lenses

    • They provide a more natural correction of presbyopia (age-related farsightedness) than bifocals or trifocals, with no visible lines on the lens. This seamless transition between focal points mimics natural vision closely and offers aesthetic advantages.
